POSITION: The College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of Forest Resources. This is a twelve-month academic and administrative appointment.

ABOUT US: The School of Forest Resources offers a wide range of degree programs to a current enrollment of nearly 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Baccalaureate programs exist in Forest Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Science, and Wood Products; graduate programs at the M.S., M.F.R., and Ph.D. level are offered in Forest Resources and Wildlife and Fisheries Science; and associate degrees in Forest and Wildlife Technology are offered at Penn State's Mont Alto and DuBois campus locations. In addition, faculty members in the School advise graduate students in several intercollege degree programs including Materials Science, Operations Research, Plant Biology, and Ecology. The School of Forest Resources community includes over 70 teaching, research, extension, and support staff. The School hosts USGS Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research and National Park Service units and maintains close relations with the USFS. The School is situated in a new 95,000-sq.ft. LEED-certified building and manages over 8,000 acres of forest land.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster excellence in teaching, research, and extension
  • Serve as an advocate/liaison for the School to other departments, college and university administration, governmental agencies and nongovernment organizations, alumni, and industry
  • Provide administrative oversight and leadership regarding human resources, fiscal matters and physical facilities
  • Support College development programs and lead development on behalf of the School

QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in a relevant academic discipline, and have a strong record of professional and scholarly achievements which would qualify for Penn State's tenure requirements at the rank of Professor. The following attributes are also highly desirable:

  • A demonstrated ability for highly effective administrative leadership and management applicable to a multidisciplinary, multifunction school
  • Significant understanding and appreciation of the evolving mission of the land-grant university system
  • Outstanding organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in program administration, personnel management, and fiscal management
  • Experience in fostering collaboration within a University setting and with external stakeholders
