Agricultural Sciences
Science that Matters.
Do you want to make a difference in the world? The programs in the College of Agricultural Sciences have vast potential to influence the future. With an education from our college, your future as a scientist, business leader, educator, or other professional will be challenging—but also will hold amazing potential to be remarkable.

You may find new ways to meet the challenges of feeding a rapidly expanding population while protecting our environment. You may discover how to sustainably manage our forests, land, and water resources, and maintain our planet’s biodiversity and beauty. You may devise new technologies that will help us solve problems we can’t even imagine now.

Penn State Ag Sciences
Penn State’s long tradition of academic excellence is rooted in the College of Agricultural Sciences. The University began in 1855 as the Farmers’ High School and soon awarded the nation’s first baccalaureate degrees in agriculture. Today, Penn State has 24 locations throughout Pennsylvania, and its College of Agricultural Sciences is among the largest in the country, with approximately 2,200 students enrolled in its undergraduate programs. At the same time, we are noted for having a small-college atmosphere with all the advantages of a major research university.

Expecting the Best
Our college sets high expectations and provides the resources and personal support you need to take charge of your own education.

  • Most agricultural science classes are taught by full-time faculty and are small enough for you to get to know your professors.
  • Faculty devote hundreds of hours each year to educational trips, service activities, and social and professional development events that offer a broad range of experiences.
  • Faculty also serve as advisers, helping you choose the best career path, schedule courses, find internships and work experience, and prepare for graduate study or employment.

Each year, Penn State honors its most outstanding teachers and advisers, and our faculty are consistently ranked among the very best in the University. Many have also won state and national teaching awards.

Dean Steele

I take very seriously our responsibility to prepare you for your coming roles in the new millennium.
My job is to ensure that you have the best and brightest faculty as your professors and mentors, because once you leave us, you will have very exciting assignments ahead of you. Indeed,
it is you who will determine the future.”

Robert D. Steele, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences
