John and Norma Almquist Graduate Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all graduate students
who are doing research in the College of Agricultural Sciences at the John
O. Almquist Research Center in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science.
Walter S. Anderson Memorial Scholarship.
Principal consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled
full-time in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who have at least
fifth but not more than tenth semester standing, have a cumulative grade-point
average of at least 2.5, and have an interest in dairy production and/or
processing. If no recipient is identified in the Department of Dairy and
Animal Science, then the scholarship will be awarded to eligible students
in the Department of Food Science. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania
Association of Milk, Food, and Environmental Sanitarians.
** Arthur C. Bigelow Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholarship and documented financial
need to a student in Dairy and Animal Science who is interested in sheep
husbandry. Endowed in memory of Arthur C. Bigelow.
August E. Branding
Memorial Award.
Candidates for this award shall be full-time junior undergraduate students
who are members in good standing of the Penn State Dairy Science Club
and who have demonstrated satisfactory academic performance. Supported
annually in memory of August E. Branding.
Charles
and Jane Brosius Annual Scholarship in the College of Agricultural Sciences
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students majoring or planning to major in Animal Sciences at Penn State
University Park who have achieved good academic records or who manifest
promise of academic success. First preference shall be given to full-time
undergraduate students who meet the above mentioned criteria and were
members of Chester County 4-H Club.
** Mark Heilman Campbell Scholarship in Dairy Production.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who are
currently enrolled or planning to enroll in Dairy Production in the Department
of Dairy and Animal Science. Applicants must have shown outstanding academic
success, have documented financial need, and be from Armstrong or Indiana
Counties, Pennsylvania. Established by family and friends of Mark Heilman
Campbell.
Clemens Family Corporation Award.
This award is made to full-time undergraduate students who have shown an interest
in meat animals and/or the meat packing industry. Preference will be given
to students enrolled in Dairy and Animal Science, Animal Production-Management
Option, who have demonstrated satisfactory academic achievement. Supported
annually by the Hatfield Packing Company.
COBA/ Select Sires, Inc. Scholarship.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students enrolled in Animal Sciences in the college of Agriculture Sciences
at The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved superior academic
records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success. Applicants
must be children or relatives of members of the COBA/Select Sires, Inc.
Cooperative, who reside in either Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler,
Cambria, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana,
Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington or
Westmorland counties of the Commonwealth of PA. Candidates must have
a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Preference shall
be given to applicants with a background in a the dairy cattle industry.
Second preference shall be given to applicants with a background in
the beef cattle industry. Key employees of COBA/Select Sires, Inc. or
their children shall be ineligible for this scholarship. For the purpose
of interpreting this provision, the University shall be governed by
the definition of "key employee" as provided in Section 416
of the Internal Revenue code, as amended from time to time.
Craola Farm Scholarship.
Applicants must be Pennsylvania residents enrolled as full-time students. Preference
will be given to farm-reared students enrolled in Dairy and Animal Science
who have documented financial need. Endowed by Mr. Albert B. Craig.
Dairy Farmers of America.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time and part-time undergraduate students
who are enrolled in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management,
Human Development and Family Studies, or Nutrition majors in the College
of Health and Human Development or in the Departments of Dairy and Animal
Science, Food Science, or Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology in
the College of Agricultural Sciences and who have completed at least two
semesters of studies, have achieved superior academic records or show promise
of outstanding academic success, live in the Dairy Farmers of America,
and have professed an interest in a career in the dairy industry or in
foods and nutrition. Preference shall be given to Dairy Farmers of America
member families. Endowed by Milk Marketing, Inc.
William B. Darrow Graduate Scholarship in Ruminant Nutrition
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time graduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in graduate studies in ruminant
nutrition in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science in the College
of Agricultural Sciences who have achieved superior academic records or
who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.
Richard E. and Peggy K. Denison Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time incoming
freshman students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Dairy
and Animal Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have achieved
superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic
success.
Ray H. Dutt Scholarship.
This scholarship is available to all full-time undergraduate students
enrolled in animal science majors who have achieved superior academic
records. Endowed by Ray H. Dutt.
Eastern
Meat Packers Association Scholarship
*Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all senior undergraduate
students and all graduate students enrolled in the Department of Dairy
and Animal Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have
displayed special interest and talent in Animal Husbandry and particularly
in the field of meats; who demonstrate leadership and scholarship and
who have an interest in the commercial meat business.
Anna K. Eaton Scholarship.
Students eligible for this award must be full-time female undergraduates who
are enrolled or planning to enroll in the Dairy and Animal Science curriculum
and who have achieved superior academic records or show promise of outstanding
academic success. Endowed through the estate of Anna K. Eaton.
Farmshine Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science.
Consideration for this scholarship will be given to all full-time undergraduate
students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of
Dairy and Animal Science who have achieved superior academic records or
who manifest promise of academic success. Preference will be given to students
who have participated in the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the
Agricultural Sciences. Endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Dieter Krieg.
Edgar E. and Dorothy W. Fehnel Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Dairy and
Animal Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania
State University who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest
promise of outstanding academic success. First preference shall be given
to incoming first-year students.
Vernon E. Hazlett Memorial Award.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students currently
enrolled in a major within the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who
have demonstrated exemplary achievement. Preference shall be given to students
who have an interest in the swine industry. Endowed by the Penn State Stockmen’s
Club.
Glenn R. Kean Memorial Award.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled
in a major in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who have demonstrated
exemplary academic achievement. Preference shall be given to students who
have an interest in the livestock and/or meats industry. Endowed by the
Penn State Stockmen’s Club.
Leidy Family Scholarship.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science or in related fields
within the College of Agricultural Sciences who show proficiency and have
an interest in meat science and/or meat processing. Students should have
completed at least one course in meat science and have demonstrated academic
achievement. Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue a
career in the meat industry or in meat science and who have documented
financial need. Supported annually by Leidy Pork, Inc.
Albert E. Madigan Award.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time graduate and undergraduate students
enrolled in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who have performed
significant research in artificial breeding and animal reproduction. Endowed
by Roger E. Madigan in honor of his father, Albert E. Madigan.
Lawrence D. and Delores A. Muller Scholarship in Dairy Science.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students planning to enroll or enrolled in the Department of Dairy and
Animal Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have an expressed
interest in dairy science; who have achieved superior academic records
or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success; and who have demonstrated
outstanding leadership qualities as evidenced by participation in extracurricular
or community activities. First preference shall be given to incoming first-year
students.
Tim and Amy Baughman Oravec Memorial Award.
Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students
enrolled or planning to enroll in either Animal Sciences or Agroecology Science
majors in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have performed outstanding
service (paid or unpaid) within the previous academic year in a crop or applied
animal nutrition lab.
Penn State Dairymen’s Club Dairy Cattle Judging Team Award.
This grant-in-aid is open to students who have demonstrated excellent skills
in dairy cattle judging contests and are interested in becoming involved
in Penn State dairy cattle judging team activities. Preference is given
to enrolled first-year students. Endowed by alumni, friends, and colleagues
of Warren C. Poage.
Penn State Dairymen’s Club Awarding for Freshman Students.
Consideration for this award shall be given to all incoming first or
second semester standing undergraduate students enrolled in the Animal Sciences
major in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science in the College of Agricultural
Sciences who have achieved exemplary academic achievement and outstanding
leadership qualities as evidenced by participation in extracurricular or
community activities related to the dairy industry.
Penn State Stockmen’s Club Memorial Award for Freshmen Students.
Consideration for this award shall be given to all incoming first-year undergraduate
students enrolled in the Animal Sciences major in the Department of Dairy
and Animal Science, College of Agricultural Sciences, who have demonstrated
exemplary academic achievement and outstanding leadership qualities, as
evidenced by participation in extracurricular or community activities.
A committee appointed by the head of the Department of Dairy and Animal
Science for this purpose shall select recipients of this award.

Pennsylvania Forage and Grassland Council Scholarship.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full-time undergraduate
students who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the College
of Agricultural Sciences majoring in Agroecology with an option in either
Integrated Crop Management or Plant Science or enrolled or planning
to enroll in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science whose cumulative
grade point average is not less than the all-University GPA and who
have a demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to those
students who have a background or have expressed an interest in forage
based agriculture. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania Forage and
Grassland Council.
** Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council Scholarship.
Consideration shall be given to sophomore, junior, and senior students enrolled
in the Dairy and Animal Science major who have an interest in swine production
or are enrolled in courses leading to a career in the swine industry. Applicants
must have documented financial need. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania
Pork Producers Council.
Herman R. Purdy Award.
This award is available to undergraduate students who have shown an interest
in improving the usefulness of pedigreed livestock (beef cattle, horses,
sheep, and swine) by participating in 4-H, FFA, livestock judging teams,
livestock clubs, and/or associations or engaging in extracurricular work
with pedigreed livestock. Preference will be given to students in the Dairy
and Animal Science major. Endowed by friends and colleagues of Herman Purdy.
Purina Mills, Inc.,
Annual Scholarship.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all graduate and
undergraduate students enrolled in the Animal Sciences major in the
College of Agricultural Sciences who have achieved a minimum grade-
point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0, who have an interest in the
dairy industry, and who are actively involved in extracurricular activities,
clubs, and internships.
**Richard
H. Ross Family Trustee Scholarship in the College of Agricultural Sciences
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural
Sciences who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall
be given to students who are enrolled in the Animal Sciences major within
the College of Agricultural Sciences who have a demonstrated financial
need.
Eugene and
Carol Schurman 4-H Scholarship in The College of Agricultural Sciences
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all Pennsylvania
resident undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the
College of Agricultural Sciences who have achieved superior academic
records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success and
who have been active in Pennsylvania 4-H program in high school. First
preference shall be given to students who are majoring or planning to
major in Animal Sciences. In the event no students are identified, who
meet the eligibility criteria in Animal Sciences, consideration for
this scholarship shall be given to all students in the College of Agricultural
Sciences who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest
promise of outstanding success and who have been active in the Pennsylvania
4-H program in high school.
John H. Schwartz Memorial
Scholarship.
Consideration shall be given to undergraduate full-time students
enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agriculture who have
achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding
academic success. Preference shall be given to students who are majoring
in Animal Sciences with an emphasis in Poultry Science.
** Edgar and
Roberta Seely Scholarship in Animal Production.
Students eligible for this scholarship must be enrolled or planning
to enroll in the Dairy and Animal Science major. Selection criteria
include interest in animal production, scholarship, and documented financial
need. Endowed by Edgar C. Seely.
Obie and Mary Ann Snider Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time graduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Dairy and
Animal Science who have an expressed interest in dairy genetics, dairy
nutrition or dairy reproductive biology and who have demonstrated exemplary
academic achievement.
Stanford Memorial Scholarship.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled
or planning to enroll in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who
have achieved superior academic records or show promise of outstanding
academic success. First consideration shall be given to students from Chester
County, Pennsylvania. Endowed by Elsie Stanford and Bruce E. Thorpe in
memory of Philip Richard Stanford, Charles Kenneth Stanford, and Leland

Betty Parks Strutin Scholarship in Dairy and Animal Science in memory of Lieutenant David P. Parks.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Dairy and
Animal Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences who have achieved
superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic
success.

Joe S. Taylor Memorial Scholarship.
Students eligible for this award must be undergraduates who have an
interest in the dairy industry and are enrolled in the Dairy and Animal
Science major. Applicants must have documented financial need. Endowed
by the Joe S. Taylor Fund.
**H. Fred
Troutt Scholarship in Agricultural Sciences
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full time undergraduate
students enrolled in the College of Agricultural Science at the Pennsylvania
State University who are residents of Pennsylvania who have achieved
superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic
success and who have demonstrated financial need. First preference shall
be for undergraduates interested in applying to Vet school. Second preference
shall be for undergraduates interested in applying to Graduate school.
Therese A. Vrooman Memorial Equine Scholarship-Lifetime Endowment.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time graduate
and undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department
of Dairy and Animal Science with an emphasis in Equine Science who have achieved
superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic
success.
Edwin M. Wagner Memorial Scholarship.
Principal consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled
full-time in the Department of Food Science who have at least fifth but
not more than tenth-semester standing, have a cumulative grade-point average
of at least 2.5, and have an interest in dairy production and/or dairy
processing. If no recipient is identified in the Department of Food Science,
the scholarship will be awarded to eligible students in the Department
of Dairy and Animal Science. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania Association
of Milk, Food, and Environmental Sanitarians.
Gilbert S. Watts Memorial Award.
Consideration shall be given to junior or senior undergraduate students majoring
in Dairy and Animal Science, Animal Production-Management option, who have
shown interest in improving Angus specifically or beef cattle production
in general. Evidence of this interest includes activities/membership in
beef cattle judging and beef cattle associations, 4-H or FFA beef cattle
projects, or extracurricular work with purebred beef cattle (preferably
Angus). Endowed by friends of Gilbert S. Watts.
**Wenger's Feed Mill Incorporated Annual Scholarship in Agricultural Sciences.
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural
Sciences who have achieved superior records or who manifest promise of
outstanding academic success, and who demonstrated financial need. Preference
shall be given to students who are studying in the area of poultry science.
James E. Work Livestock Judging Award.
Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time undergraduate
students who have completed a livestock evaluation, selection, and judging
course (currently AN SC 324 or AN SC 325) and who have demonstrated exemplary
achievement during competition on the Penn State Livestock Judging Team.

** Dwight E. Younkin Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is open to all students enrolled in Dairy and Animal Science,
Animal Production-Management option who have an interest in swine production.
Applicants must have documented financial need. Endowed by the Pork Producers
