Special Guidelines for Advisers
Locations other than University Park

  • The number of semesters students may study at locations other than University Park depends on the availability of courses offered at a particular location and the requirements of the studen's major.

  • Advisers at other locations should take special note of courses in each major scheduled for the third and fourth semesters. Some basic courses in the natural sciences, and technical courses in the major field, are not available at all locations. Students who cannot be accommodated with these courses should seek a change of assignment to University Park by the third semester to complete prerequisites to advanced courses and thereby remain on schedule; therefore, it is imperative advisers be aware of the program of courses in each major so students may seek change of assignment to University Park at the proper time.

  • Most majors in agriculture are based on the natural sciences. All plant and animal majors and majors in FD SC and E R M are based on prerequisites in BIOL, CHEM (including organic), and BIOCH. Prescribed additional or supporting courses in the natural sciences and quantification courses should be scheduled according to the tabular outline since many of the agriculture courses depend on those courses as prerequisites to specific agricultural courses. Do not allow students to avoid these courses in the early semesters. Technical agriculture courses taken by students at University Park assume adequate preparation in the biological and physical sciences.

  • The Agribusiness Management major is a social science-based major. It requires only 12 credits in the natural sciences. Campuses with courses in economics and business may accommodate students in this major for up to two years without serious scheduling problems upon arrival at University Park.

  • MATH 001, 002, 003, 004, and ENGL 004 are considered remedial courses and may not be used to satisfy requirements of any major or in meeting the total credits for graduation or used as elective credits. This policy will apply also to any new courses that may be added primarily for remedial purposes.

  • Planning for an international experience should begin early, especially for students at non-University Park locations.
