A milky, caramelized European-style milk chocolate has been produced using a unique process developed by Hershey. Originally, this chocolate was developed for the Canadian market. Currently, it is used in products in the U.S., Mexico and in many countries around the world.

The project to develop this product -- called "Hershey Lite" and led by Larry B. Campbell -- was burdened by major constraints, being the most important one cost restrictions. Major technical and admnistrative hurdles at the early stages were overcome in the development of the new product. The project was a success. It contributed to the revitalization of Hershey Canada and, subsequently, it was successfully introduced in the U.S. and Mexico.

Today, the "Hershey Lite" chocolate is expected to play an increasing role as Hershey moves more aggresively into the international scene.
