KEYSTONE 21 has two goals. The first is to met the challenges created by the rapid changes occurring in the food system. To this end, KEYSTONE 21 is funding the development and implementation of new formal and non-formal educational programs that will prepare food system professionals for the complex food system issues of the 21st century.
The second goal of the KEYSTONE 21 is broader in scope, and focuses on enhancing the relevance of land-grant universities by addressing the publicıs changing needs, values, and priorities. KEYSTONE 21 is addressing these and related issues by encouraging the creation of programs and initiatives that demonstrate the Pennsylvania State Universityıs commitment to the needs of all residents in the Commonwealth.
By the Year 2020, the global food system will provide abundant, safe, affordable and appealing food. Access to food will be a basic human right and hunger will no longer be a problem. In addition to meeting traditional needs of taste and convenience, food will be viewed as a tool for disease prevention and health enhancement.
