A Facility for the Future
In a move to help the food processing and manufacturing industry in the state and throughout the nation to better meet its needs for well-educated food science students and state-of-the-art facilities for research and workforce training, on July 9, 2005, Penn State's Board of Trustees approved final plans for the new Food Science Building, which will include the new Berkey Creamery, on the University Park campus.

The new Food Science Building ensures that Penn State's Department of Food Science remains strong by:

  • recruiting and retaining the highest-caliber faculty and students;
  • educating students through exposure to quality teaching and dynamic research;
  • providing specialized research and technology transfer expertise for the food industry; and
  • providing pilot plant facilities for small and medium sized food companies.
